H. E. Peter MAFANY MUSONGE

H. E. Peter MAFANY MUSONGE, former Prime Minister, Head of Government, well known for his rigour, hardwork, discipline and ability to achieve desired results in complex environments, has had a rich career in engineering, management of state corporations and politics.

Born on December 3, 1942 in Muea, Fako Division of the South West Region, Peter MAFANY MUSONGE attended the famous St. Joseph’s College, Sasse near Buea (1957-1961) and pursued university studies in the United States of America, obtaining a B.S. in Civil Engineering (1967) from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and an M.S. in Structural Engineering (1968) from Stanford University, Palo Alto, California.  He returned home in 1969 and started a long career which saw him go through the ranks in the department of roads of the Ministries of Transport and Equipment where he held several positions of responsibilities (Chief of Service, Sub-Director, Deputy Director).

Thereafter he was given the opportunity and challenge to manage three state corporations successfully: the National Civil Engineering Laboratory (1980-1984), the National Civil Engineering Equipment Pool (1984-1988), and the agro-industrial giant – the Cameroon Development Corporation (1988-1996).

After this came an even greater challenge, his appointment to the Post of Prime Minister Head of Government which he held from September 1996 to December 2004.

Peter MAFANY MUSONGE is currently Grand Chancellor of National Orders at the Presidency of the Republic since his appointment to the post in April 2007.  Besides being a sitting Senator since 2013 and the very first Chairman of the CPDM Parliamentary Group in the Senate, he is a member of both the Central Committee and the Political Bureau of the ruling CPDM party.  He is also the Head of the South West Permanent Regional Delegation of the Central Committee.

Married and father of four children, he has received several distinctions among which are : Grand Officer of the Order of Valour of the Republic of Cameroon and Grand Officer of the French Legion of Honour
