A three-day Colloquium on “Religions and the Promotion of Peace, Social Cohesion and Living Together” opened at the Yaounde Conference Centre this Wednesday 7th. October 2026.
Organised by the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, the Colloquium aims at raising awareness on the potential dangers some religious practices could pose to peace, social cohesion and Living Together.”
After an introductive word, the President, of the Commission, H.E.Peter Many Musonge, gave the floor to the Vice President, Mr Oumarou Djika, to open the Colloquium. Mr. Djika said the event will identify the causes and manifestations of religious intolerance and malpractices in our society, inform, enlighten, explain and raise awareness on the potential abuses and exploitation linked to decontextualised interpretations of religious texts and dogmas.
The Secretary General of the Commission, Dr. Chi Asafor Cornelius, then presented the colloquium, bringing into the limelight the different presentations participants will listen to.
For the three days, therefore , several exposés will be served, after which, several recommendations and concrete measures will be proposed, to contain religious excesses in Cameroon.
