The NCPBM makes its presence felt at Ministerial Departments. Members of the NCPBM embark on fact finding missions to Ministerial Departments, to evaluate the level of implementation of article 01 (3) of the constitution on bilingualism.
Members of the NCPBM from the 01st to the 03rd of November 2017, embarked on field missions to all Ministerial Departments in the country.
The mission that fell in line with the plan of action of the Commission was to evaluate the level of implementation of constitutional provisions related to the promotion of Bilingualism in the various Ministerial Departments. Divided into 07 teams and technically assisted by rapporteurs, the members were out to collect best practices, difficulties faced and suggestions to promote the practice of Bilingualism in public administrations. They were out to verify if all administrative documents, publications, signposts, notice boards and every information made available for public consumption appeared in the two official languages. Particular attention was paid to evaluate the translation, communication and reception services as they play a very pivotal role in providing bilingual services to users.
Prior to the visits, the Commission had earlier dispatched questionnaires to all Ministerial Departments to collect data related to the practice of bilingualism in the respective Ministries. The data collected through the questionnaires, together with findings obtained during the working sessions with the Ministers and some top officials of the Ministerial Departments, were later processed and came out with a clear picture on the level of implementation of article 01 (03) of the Constitution.
Suggestions were made and forwarded to appropriate quarters, for adequate measures to be taken to improve on the practice of Bilingualism in Cameroon.
